Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team at Marion School District. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining all district vehicles to ensure they operate properly and in a state of excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with other mechanics to ensure buses are safe and road worthy
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
  • Diagnose and repair district vehicles
  • Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure they are in proper operating condition
  • Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
  • Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure they are working properly
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair work
  • Maintain high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work areas
  • Reports all conditions that present safety hazards on buses and other automotive equipment immediately to the Director of Transportation

Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or training and experience that are considered equivalent
  • A proficiency in repair and maintenance of buses, trucks, and other automotive equipment
  • Electrical, mechanical, or automotive air conditioning certifications preferred but not required
  • Certified Driver's License (CDL) or be eligible and willing to obtain a CDL

Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of diagnostic equipment applicable to the industry. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must have the ability to move around and stand on hard surfaces for long periods of time.

Language Ability: Must be able to communicate and be understood by supervisor and co-workers. Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, technical manuals, trade journals, etc.
