Navy Child and Youth Programs (CYP) is dedicated to providing exceptional early care and youth services across various environments, including center-based care for infants to preschoolers, facility-based programs for school-aged children, and recreational activities for teens.
Role of the CYP Culinary Support Specialist
The CYP Culinary Support Specialist plays a vital role in the food service team, ensuring that children and youth receive nutritious and wholesome meals and snacks. This position involves assisting with food preparation, transporting meals to designated areas, and performing essential kitchen tasks.
Key Responsibilities
The CYP Culinary Support Specialist is responsible for a variety of tasks related to food service preparation, which include:
- Food Preparation and Service: Assist in the preparation of meals by performing tasks such as peeling, cutting, and washing vegetables and fruits; assembling sandwiches; and measuring ingredients. Ensure food service carts are stocked with necessary utensils, plates, and beverages for family-style dining.
- Kitchen Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness by washing pots, pans, and dishes according to sanitation standards. Clean food preparation areas and ensure all kitchen equipment is properly maintained and sanitized.
- Food Storage: Properly label and date all food items in storage, ensuring compliance with health standards. Assist in unloading supplies and managing waste disposal.
Additional Duties
Adhere to security, fire, and sanitation regulations while ensuring compliance with relevant food program standards. Act as a mandatory reporter in cases of suspected child abuse and neglect, following local policies.
Qualifications
A successful candidate will possess:
- Knowledge of food handling techniques and personal hygiene standards.
- Basic arithmetic skills for measuring ingredients and understanding recipe construction.
- Strong communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
Education
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
