Key Responsibilities

  • Delivers personalized coaching and assistance to families with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), focusing on their unique situations and requirements.
  • Guides parents in crafting and executing effective parenting techniques, emphasizing communication, discipline, emotional management, and self-care; provides direct support services as necessary, including help with daily living activities.
  • Conducts evaluations and observations to pinpoint strengths, challenges, and opportunities for enhancement in parenting skills among individuals with I/DD.
  • Works alongside supervisors and parents to establish objectives and formulate tailored parenting plans that resonate with each family's values and aspirations.
  • Handles referrals and performs initial assessments for prospective program participants, which may involve home or community visits to engage with parents and evaluate their needs.
  • Offers case management assistance to parents, facilitating the coordination and navigation of available services, including referrals and applications.
  • Imparts parenting education and training to participants using established curricula in both individual and group settings, employing diverse instructional methods.
  • Monitors parents as they practice newly acquired skills, providing constructive feedback on their interactions with their children.
  • Educates parents on understanding and addressing their children's developmental needs, behavior management, and fostering positive parent-child relationships.
  • Researches and compiles community resources tailored to participants' specific needs, maintaining an organized database of relevant services.
  • Collaborates with external support networks to ensure consistent services for families and to evaluate progress across various settings.
  • Advocates for the rights and needs of parents within the service system, ensuring they are informed of their entitlements.
  • Maintains thorough, accurate, and confidential records of family progress, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Supports Parent Coaches in delivering education and guidance to families, assisting with resource access and documentation.
  • Adheres to all applicable regulatory requirements, including those related to privacy and confidentiality.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with individuals with I/DD and their families, or in related advocacy roles.
  • Familiarity with community resources aimed at enhancing parenting skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Empathy and a nonjudgmental approach towards individuals with disabilities and their families.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, including Microsoft Office.
  • Willingness to travel regularly for assessments and visits.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings or weekends as necessary.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with individuals with I/DD and their families.
  • Fluency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
Compensation:
  • $22.00/hour - $23.00/hour
