Job Title: Clinic Field Instructor/Supervisor

Job Summary:

The Clinic Field Instructor/Supervisor is a key member of the Norton Sound Health Corporation team, responsible for providing leadership and supervision to Community Health Aides/Practitioners in village clinics. This role requires strong clinical and teaching skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical supervision and guidance to Community Health Aides/Practitioners
  • Assess, plan, and provide patient care under the supervision of a physician
  • Teach and mentor Community Health Aides/Practitioners in clinical skills and procedures
  • Manage health aide staff and ensure proper staffing of village clinics
  • Collaborate with VHS Directors and Medical Director to address medical and training issues
  • Develop and implement training programs for Community Health Aides/Practitioners
  • Monitor and evaluate the medical activities of Community Health Aides/Practitioners
  • Work with Community Health Aides/Practitioners to identify and address clinic facility issues
  • Recommend Medical Standing Orders to VHS Medical Director

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (Family Practice preferred)
  • Experience working in a community health practice or setting (5 years minimum)
  • Experience supervising, managing, or directing the work of other employees (0 years minimum)
  • Certified Physician Assistant or Certified Nurse Practitioner licensure
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Administrative skills involving supervision, planning, and project implementation
  • Experience managing stress and working multiple projects/deadlines at one time
  • Computer skills with familiarity with MS Office programs
  • Experience with clinic workload prioritization and patient triage with limited ancillary support

Working Conditions:

  • Work is conducted in a standard clinical environment
  • Minimal travel required (less than 25% of the time)
  • Travel is done via large aircraft
  • Travel is done via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft
  • Travel is done using snowmobile, all terrain vehicle, or boat

Physical Requirements:

  • Use hands and arms to operate office or clinical equipment
  • Sit more than half the workday
  • Stand and/or walk less than half the workday
  • Bend, stretch, twist, crouch, and/or reach
  • View electronic monitors for prolonged periods of time
  • Use hands and arms for repetitive motion tasks
  • Lift or carry unaided between 25 and 50 pounds
  • Push or pull using up to moderate force
