The Global Agile Integrated Transport (GAIT) system is a sophisticated MPLS network that interlinks Army Regional Hub Nodes (RHNs), various DoD Teleports, and additional critical points to support a worldwide tactical network. This infrastructure is essential for training, contingency operations, and mission execution on a global scale. GAIT facilitates the integration of processing equipment that addresses multi-phase convergence methodologies, including Intelligence and Telemedicine Convergence. It also serves as the backbone for emerging requirements such as Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Processing, Exploitation, and Dissemination (PED) as well as En route Mission Command and Control (EMC2).

The PM Tactical Network (TN) team comprises satellite engineers, technicians, network specialists, cybersecurity experts, and other technical professionals who contribute to program and project planning and management.


Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • The Senior Systems Engineer Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the NSC, which includes monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting, and providing technical support for satellite systems to NSC clients.
  • Collaborates with PM TN to enhance the network/system design by utilizing emulation test bed capabilities and other laboratory resources for ongoing improvement of the GAIT.
  • Assists PM TN in developing network architecture, defining evaluation criteria, and creating experimental test plans.
  • Engages in data analysis and formulates recommendations, supporting the establishment and upkeep of a comprehensive virtual network emulation environment through commercial tools and in-house solutions.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of networking technologies and a strong analytical skill set to clearly define, analyze, and relate findings back to system design and characteristics.
  • Participates in Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with internal and external stakeholders as a subject matter expert (SME), focusing on command, control, and communications systems technologies.

Work Environment:

  • Operates within a climate-controlled facility.
  • May necessitate support during non-traditional hours, including evenings or weekends.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling 40 lbs. without assistance.
Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in networking or telecommunications, or equivalent experience may be considered. Previous military SATCOM experience (e.g., 25S or 31S MOS) is acceptable.
  • Cisco Networking certifications are preferred.
  • Direct experience in managing LAN/WAN technologies or supporting enterprise networks is essential.

Experience / Skills:

  • Proficient in the installation, repair, troubleshooting, or maintenance of satellite systems; capable of resolving complex issues and understanding circuit interrelationships while exercising independent judgment in communications systems support.
  • Expertise in military or commercial satellite communications terminals, including X, C, KA, Ku-band satellite terminals, and various satellite modems.
  • Experience in networking and cybersecurity technologies and platforms.
