Job Title: Discovery and Systems Librarian

Mount Holyoke College's Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) Division is seeking a highly skilled Discovery and Systems Librarian to join our team. As a key member of the Discovery Services department, you will play a critical role in connecting our community to the vast array of information resources available to them.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical leadership in managing a suite of information systems employed by the library.
  • Serve as the primary contact with systems vendors and LITS colleagues to facilitate systems integrations, troubleshooting, security, and system upgrades.
  • Consult with colleagues in LITS to gather input and implement improvements to public-facing library interfaces.
  • Work closely with the Head of Discovery Services to bridge the gaps between systems, discovery, and access.
  • Develop and implement need-based solutions and workarounds to address system limitations.
  • Collaborate with DnA colleagues to create need-based queries and reports.
  • Provide backup support for the Head of Discovery Services concerning electronic resources, including management, access, and troubleshooting.
  • Stay up-to-date with new trends, tools, and applications, and engage in professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a continuous process of assessment to ensure DnA's success in advancing the College's evolving goals.
  • Maintain high-quality customer service standards, responding to questions and problems.
  • Actively contribute to Five Colleges working groups, FOLIO SIGs, and local meetings.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Requirements:
  • MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of library experience, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Familiarity with general practices and standards for library cataloging, metadata, and technical services workflows.
  • Experience with integrated library systems, e-resource management systems, and other library technologies.
  • Familiarity with programming or markup languages, APIs, and SQL.
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities, juggle multiple tasks, and guide projects to fruition.
  • Excellent listening, oral, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with transferring bibliographic records between systems and using MARCedit.
  • Experience using OCLC Connexion and WMS (WorldShare Management Services).
  • Familiarity with image-based or text-based digital repositories.
  • Experience using collaborative tools such as Github, Slack, and Confluence.
