Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plant Operations Specialist to assist in the operation of our central heating and cooling plant. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the care and operation of the electronic building automation system, centrifugal refrigeration machines, fossil fuel boilers, electrical boilers, and their associated machine components.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the operation of the building automation system and the steam and chilled water equipment in the university's central heating and cooling plant.
  • Assist in water treatment and the inspection, maintenance, and emergency repairs of machinery and equipment.
  • Keep the plant area clean and in an orderly manner, and perform other related duties as assigned by supervision.

Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of related experience at a similar heating and cooling facility or industrial facility requiring multi-talented, craft achievements.
  • Vocational school training may be exchanged for experience at a rate of one-half time per year.
  • Should have an adequate working knowledge of a combination of crafts including, but not limited to, the following: electrical transmission including high voltage, branch and control circuitry, steam and chilled water distribution, fire alarm systems, elevators, plumbing, piping, pumping, painting, pneumatics, automation, and environmental control systems.

Working Conditions
  • Exposure to high voltage, extreme steam pressure, and other dangerous equipment.
  • Will be required to work holidays when needed.
  • This position will be required to work to provide critical services during University holidays, closures, and other emergencies, as needed.
