Job Summary

The City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Health is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner to join our Trauma Surgery and Neurosurgery teams at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. As a key member of our multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide high-quality patient care, coordinate and implement aspects of trauma care, and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to deliver exceptional patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide routine preventive and continuity care to adult and/or pediatric patients, including comprehensive history-taking and physical examinations.
  • Order diagnostic tests such as lab work, imaging (X-rays, E.K.G.s), and other specialty-specific tests.
  • Identify and manage patients with unstable chronic diseases within the clinical specialty.
  • Deliver urgent care to acutely ill patients, addressing trauma and general surgery needs in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Develop acute care plans for inpatient management.
  • Assess, diagnose, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications.
  • Counsel and educate patients, collaborate with the healthcare team, and orient medical students and surgical residents on Trauma and Neurosurgery protocols.
  • Consult with physicians on complex patient diagnoses and treatments.
  • Maintain accurate medical records while adhering to patient privacy regulations.
  • Participate in staff meetings, patient care conferences, and quality improvement activities.
Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California Nurse Practitioner (NP) license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • Possession of a current medication furnishing license issued by the California Board of Registered Nurses.
  • Possession of national board certification, or eligibility, as a Nurse Practitioner issued by one of the recognized national certifying bodies or organizations.
  • Specialization as an Acute Care NP or Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP.
  • Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certificate issued by the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum one year of experience in critical care.
  • Experience in an acute care hospital.
