The City of Macedonia is seeking a highly skilled Building Code Enforcement Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Building Department, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations, providing guidance to contractors and the public, and conducting inspections to ensure public safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Code Enforcement: Conduct inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations, identify and document code violations, and take enforcement action as necessary.
- Public Guidance: Provide information and guidance to contractors, builders, and the public on building codes and regulations, including the Ohio Building Code and City and County Code.
- Inspections: Conduct on-site inspections of residential and commercial building construction to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Plan Review: Review blueprints, plans, and sketches submitted with permit applications to ensure code conformance and identify discrepancies and deficiencies.
- Administrative Tasks: Prepare inspection reports, review and approve occupancies and permit requests, and complete other routine forms as needed.
Requirements:
- Education: Degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: At least five (5) years of experience in construction inspection, surveying, or a similar position involving experience with various types of construction, infrastructure, and/or civil engineering.
- Certifications: State of Ohio-issued Residential Building Official Certification, Chief Building Official Certification, and Building Inspector Certification.
- Skills: Knowledge of building codes and regulations, construction management, and supervisory practices.
Work Environment:
The work is performed both in a typical office setting and in the field during inspections and other events. The employee is potentially exposed to inclement weather and various conditions of building construction.
