Fire Inspector I Job Description

The City of Corona Fire Department is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Inspector I to join our team. As a Fire Inspector I, you will play a critical role in ensuring public safety by conducting thorough investigations of fires and enforcing fire codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct arson fire investigations and gather evidence to determine the cause and origin of fires
  • Testify in court cases regarding investigation results
  • Issue citations for violations of applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations
  • Review plans and specifications for industrial, commercial, institutional, and residential buildings and facilities to ensure compliance with state and local fire and life safety codes
  • Perform on-site inspections and prepare and present correction notices related to deficiencies observed
Requirements:
  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent, supplemented with college-level coursework
  • Two years of experience in building or fire inspection, fire protection systems, fire suppression, or a closely related field
  • Valid Class C California driver's license and ability to maintain insurability under the City's vehicle insurance policy
  • California State Fire Marshal Fire Inspector I certification or equivalent
  • Certification in PC 832 within six months of hire
  • California State Fire Marshal Investigation 1A, 1B, and 1C certification within one year of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
  • Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist
  • Thirty (30) semester units or Forty-Six (46) quarter units in the disciplines listed under education from an accredited college
