Pediatric Triage Nurse Job Description

Piedmont Pediatric Practice is seeking an LPN or MA with a minimum of 1 year's clinical pediatric practice experience to perform triage services for pediatric patients over the phone in the practice office.

This is not a remote position. The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for medical care to phone-in patients, utilizing their clinical expertise to assess patient needs, identify symptoms, and determine emergencies requiring physician interaction.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer medication injections and vaccines as per standing orders
  • Conduct comprehensive, preventative screenings for patients and assist support staff in daily patient interactions as needed
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, including taking histories and vital signs
  • Follow standing order procedures as indicated by the practice
  • Perform routine blood drawing procedures and maintain inventory of supplies
  • Maintain patient files, records, and other information
  • Perform quality control procedures to maintain compliance with internal and external regulations
Requirements:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with patients and other external parties in a courteous and friendly manner
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Ability to clearly communicate orally and in writing
  • Firm grasp of medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies
  • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for prolonged periods of time and talk and hear. Some standing is required as well as walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stretching, and climbing stairs.

This position requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment.

The ability to observe details at close range and communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

It is necessary to view and type on computer screens for long periods and work in an environment that can be very stressful.

The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
