Forensic Toxicology Scientist

This position is located within the Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory (FTDTL), at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. As a Forensic Toxicology Scientist, you will be responsible for conducting forensic toxicological testing for emerging drugs of abuse, conducting medical and forensic toxicology research, and assisting with the implementation of new methodologies into the laboratory. You will also serve as a technical and scientific subject matter expert in the troubleshooting of existing and new drug extraction and detection methodologies, and testify in courts as an expert witness.
Responsibilities:
Perform scientific assessments to provide input for testimonies in court
Conduct research using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry, Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry, and Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry
Assist with the implementation of new methodologies into the laboratory
Serve as a technical and scientific subject matter expert in the troubleshooting of existing and new drug extraction and detection methodologies
Testify in courts as an expert witness
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service
Experience with forensic toxicology research and testing
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate complex scientific information to non-technical audiences
