The McLendon Clinical Laboratories is currently recruiting applicants for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in the Cytogenetics Lab. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will support clinical laboratory diagnostics by performing laboratory testing or performing activities to support testing within the various areas of the Cytogenetics Lab.

Key responsibilities include accessioning, autoclaving, preparing solutions and harvesting samples for constitutional and acquired diseases. Preparation of slides for the analysis of chromosomes and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Performance of quality assurance and quality control for preventative maintenance on lab equipment.

The Medical Laboratory Technician will be guided by existing professional guidelines and certified Cytogenetic technologists.

Work Environment:
Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with rotating weekend and holiday coverage responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct patients in preparing for tests that require fasting. Answer patient questions regarding the tests.
  • Maintain equipment and investigate problems with equipment.
  • May assist in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees.
  • May monitor daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
  • May participate on teams or individually perform special projects/assignments.
  • Perform a variety of routine and standardized tests using standard techniques and equipment. Prepare specimens, resolve specimen problems, and perform analytical tests. Label and store specimens.
  • Prepare reagents and assist in the preparation of standard and control materials. Monitor levels of reagents and assist in maintaining supplies.
  • Record results of tests and maintain records. Provide test results, reporting deviations from the norm to supervisor or ordering physician.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
  • ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligible and must receive BOC within a year.
  • MLT (ASCP) or MLT (AMT) Board of Certification (BOC) required.
