We are seeking a skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Saint Alphonsus Health System. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients, utilizing various medical laboratory procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform tests related to the diagnosis and treatment of patients, utilizing various medical laboratory procedures.
- Correlate and integrate other patient data when interpreting test results.
- Use professional judgment and have an in-depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, scientific principles, quality control, and instrument maintenance.
- Recognize problems, identify causes, and determine alternative methods and solutions.
- Perform, record, and review scheduled QC, taking immediate corrective action when QC data is outside established limits.
- Perform and record routine maintenance of equipment, recognizing and documenting poor instrument performance and taking appropriate action independently.
- Verify specimen labeling, integrity, and suitability before performing testing.
- Accurately perform low, medium, and high complexity testing procedures according to established protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Report test results accurately and appropriately, reporting critical test results to physician, nursing station, or physician office according to established protocol.
- Prioritize work to maintain maximum efficiency, using spare time to assist other areas as needed.
- Perform phlebotomy when needed according to laboratory policies and procedures.
- Monitor supply inventory and take appropriate action to ensure that needed supplies are readily available.
- Review work performed by clinical laboratory assistants, performing corrective actions if required.
- Perform expected tasks without direction of supervisor.
- Ensure accuracy of work being reported by assigned department, examining review lists, pending logs, and the like, resolving problems immediately and communicating with oncoming shift, nurses/physicians as appropriate.
- Work independently and troubleshoot analyzers by calling tech support, etc.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree Required.
- Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or equivalent certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required or registry eligible and obtained within 1 year of hire date.
- Completion of medical technology training required. Experience in a clinical laboratory preferred.
