Key Responsibilities- Operate heavy motorized equipment, including motor graders, large capacity loaders, backhoes, and large road rollers, to perform construction and maintenance tasks.
- Make excavations, dig ditches, cut road grades, and roll asphalt for street and road construction or repair.
- Haul dirt, gravel, rock, sand, or other materials used on construction or repair jobs.
- Plow snow and apply ice control materials.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Assist with manual work in maintenance or construction and repair, including the repair of cracked or broken pavement, broken or missing guard rails, bridge repair, cutting brush, trimming or cutting down trees, and shoveling ice and snow off bridges and out of culverts and drains.
- Must be able to read and write at the tenth-grade level.
- Must have one year of relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of roads or two years of experience in a construction or maintenance-related field.
- Must have six months of experience operating loaders or equivalent equipment operation.
- Must possess a valid Class B commercial driver's license at time of application and a Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and tanker endorsement within six months of appointment.
- Must be registered in the US Department of Transportation's Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and heavier loads with assistance.
Must be able to work and drive day and evening hours. Must be able to get in and out of vehicles and other motorized equipment. Must be able to perform heavy labor work requiring bending, climbing, grasping, pulling, reaching, squatting, and twisting. Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, which can be noisy and dirty.
BenefitsWe offer a wide range of benefits, including fully paid dental and HMO health insurance premiums for full-time employees, pro-rated for part-time employees. The County will also provide contributions towards POS health insurance premiums and short/long-term disability. Additional benefits available include long-term care, vision coverage, flex spending account, and deferred compensation programs paid in full by the employee, and a wellness program.
