Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Detention Cook to join our team at Coconino County, AZ. As a key member of our food service team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to inmates, supervising food preparation and serving staff, and maintaining a safe and clean kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, purchase, prepare, and serve inmate meals
  • Train and supervise food preparation and serving staff
  • Inspect and ensure the quality and quantity of food
  • Supervise and assist in cleaning kitchen and serving areas
  • Prepare reports and maintain records and inventories as required
  • Maintain compliance with food handling policies and procedures
  • Maintain a positive work environment with and amongst food preparation and serving staff
  • Keep food costs within the parameters of the budget
  • Consult with dieticians, nutritionists, and medical staff for special diets
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in food preparation, serving, and cooking in volume
  • Ability to read and follow recipes
  • Ability to direct the activities of workers
  • Ability to perform physical inventories
  • Ability to communicate orally and by telephone with public and employees in a face-to-face setting
  • Ability to remain in a standing position for extended periods of time
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports
  • Ability to work safely and support the culture of workplace safety
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with inmates, employees, other agencies, and the public
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience cooking in fast food, restaurant, or institutional situations
  • Experience working in a detention setting
