We are seeking an experienced Executive Director/Principal to lead our planned giving and regional development efforts. This is a senior leadership position that oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive planned giving program, with a focus on securing major, principal, and planned gifts from alumni and other prospective donors.
Key Responsibilities- Manage a portfolio of significant prospects and philanthropic partnerships, with a goal of raising upwards of $3,000,000 annually in major, principal, and planned gifts.
- Develop and implement a communication plan to promote planned giving opportunities and services to alumni and other prospective donors, including a gift planning website, e-newsletter, social media posts, and customized estate planning guide.
- Work with donors and their financial advisors to market, negotiate, and close a wide range of outright and planned giving arrangements, including charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder and lead trusts, retained life estates, gifts of real estate, life insurance, and bequests.
- Supervise assigned development and support staff, including regional development officers, and provide guidance and support to ensure the success of the planned giving program.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate fundraising business plans and donor strategies designed to meet/exceed fundraising goals and objectives.
- Bachelor's degree.
- At least six years of experience in planned gift fundraising and legal/financial experience with charitable gift planning, including tax and inheritance law.
- Experience developing and implementing a successful marketing plan for a planned giving program.
- Supervisory experience.
- Considerable knowledge of best practices in planned giving, including relevant rules, regulations, and programs/policies which comply with various planned giving vehicles.
- Considerable knowledge and a successful record of donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Extensive knowledge of and skill in using fundraising databases and planned giving software.
- Masters degree.
- At least eight years of fundraising experience.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Comprehensive campaign experience.
- Demonstrated track record of securing six and seven figure major and/or planned gifts.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other development professionals.
