California Red-legged Frog Biologist

The California Red-legged Frog Biologist will be part of a team responsible for ensuring the protection and conservation of this endangered species at a remote railroad infrastructure construction project on Vandenberg Space Force Base, Santa Barbara County. The successful candidate will work closely with construction contractors, environmental professionals, and regulatory agencies to implement and enforce project permit conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily presence/absence surveys for California Red-legged Frog in construction zones and safely relocate species if present.
- Monitor construction areas for wildlife, including avian species, mammals, and reptiles, and capture and relocate wildlife in harm's way.
- Implement and enforce project permit conditions to ensure biological compliance measures are executed effectively.
- Document and communicate daily observations using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Conduct avian resource nesting surveys and communicate project needs to project managers and internal teams.
- Identify local flora and fauna and research environmental effects of the project to identify methods or techniques to improve or maintain environmental conditions.
- Review project construction plans, permits, and environmental documentation and write summaries of biological constraints.
- Prepare biological/technical reports and assist with project management.
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Biology, Botany, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources, or Wildlife Management.
- 5-10 years of related experience in biology, botany, wildlife, or endangered species management, with a minimum of 2 years of professional field experience with California Red-legged Frog.
- Advanced field experience and knowledge in recognizing wildlife and plants throughout Santa Barbara County region and California's Central Coast.
- Proficient analytical, data management, and technical writing skills, with the ability to keep precise, accurate, and legible field notes.
- Licensed or certified to handle or survey for applicable endangered species, and a valid California Driver's license.
The successful candidate will work in a remote outdoor environment, with occasional lifting, pulling, or pushing up to 50 lbs, and will be required to wear personal protective equipment. The candidate must be able to work outside for long hours in variable weather conditions.
