Job Title: Criminalist

The Department of Justice is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Criminalist to join our team. As a Criminalist, you will play a critical role in processing DNA samples, developing DNA profiles, and importing them into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

Job Summary:

The Criminalist classification is an entry, training, and sub-journey level position that requires a strong foundation in the physical or biological sciences. As a Criminalist, you will work closely with law enforcement agencies to process DNA samples, develop DNA profiles, and import them into CODIS. You will also assist Senior Criminalists with specialized duties and projects within the Data Bank Program.

Responsibilities:
  • Process DNA samples collected from qualified persons and submitted by California law enforcement agencies.
  • Develop DNA profiles from these samples and import them into CODIS.
  • Assist Senior Criminalists with specialized duties and projects within the Data Bank Program.
  • Perform routine technical duties and maintain accurate records.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a physical or biological science.
  • 3 semester hours of Quantitative Analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
