Overview:


The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is accountable for delivering pulmonary care to patients of all ages, including critically ill, non-critical, and those with chronic conditions, under the supervision of a physician with minimal oversight.

The RRT conducts thorough patient evaluations and develops tailored respiratory care strategies. This role encompasses a variety of technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy interventions across all hospital departments.

Key Responsibilities:
Adheres to the established OneCHRISTUS Competencies, which include being a Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Emergency response (Code Blue and White)
- Management of airways, including nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning
- Administration of aerosolized medications
- Operation and management of ventilators
- Oral hygiene practices
- Placement and upkeep of airway retaining devices
- Management of airway support devices such as BiPAP and CPAP
- Administration of oxygen delivery systems and therapeutic monitoring
- Analysis of chest radiographs
- Collection and analysis of blood gases
- EKG interpretation
- Accurate and comprehensive documentation
- Cleaning and restocking of necessary equipment and supplies
- Participation in CAP and JC surveys.
RRTs may take on the role of Shift Leader or Team Leader as required.

Advanced Practice Skills May Include:
- Management and monitoring of therapeutic gases, including INO and HeO2
- Conducting Pulmonary Function Tests
- Assisting in bronchoscopy procedures
- Monitoring hemodynamics
- Performing waveform analysis
- Evaluating nocturnal SpO2 (Desaturation Studies)
- Conducting polysomnography
- Undertaking transport duties.
