Position Summary

The Culinary Specialist is responsible for preparing, seasoning, and cooking a variety of dishes, including soups, meats, vegetables, and desserts within a restaurant setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of food preparation and serving areas to uphold safe and sanitary food-handling standards.
  • Monitor and regulate cooking temperatures of ovens, broilers, grills, and roasters to ensure food is stored and cooked properly.
  • Check the quality and freshness of food and ingredients, keeping track of inventory and rotating stock as necessary.
  • Season and cook dishes according to established recipes or personal expertise.
  • Utilize various cooking methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, and steaming for meats, fish, vegetables, and other food items.
  • Evaluate and test foods to confirm they are cooked to the appropriate level.
  • Prepare fruits and vegetables by washing, peeling, cutting, and seeding as needed for meal preparation.
  • Carve and trim meats for both hot and cold service.
  • Collaborate with supervisory staff to develop menus, considering budgetary constraints and special event requirements.
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff to ensure efficient operation.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
