Environmental Conservation Specialist

The Department of Environmental Conservation at UMass Amherst is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Forest Insect Management and Conservation. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's research and teaching mission, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches to forest conservation and management.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and teach courses in forest ecology, entomology, and conservation biology, with a focus on forest insect management and conservation.
- Conduct research in forest conservation and management, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches and collaborations with state, federal, and non-governmental agencies.
- Develop and maintain a strong research program, with a focus on securing external funding and publishing research in top-tier journals.
- Contribute to the department's service mission, with a focus on advising and mentoring students, as well as contributing to departmental and university-wide service activities.
- Ph.D. in forestry, entomology, ecology and conservation, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated teaching experience at the university level.
- Relevant research experience and a publication record.
- A demonstrated ability to secure funding and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
- Experience mentoring students from underrepresented backgrounds in science.
- A strong publication record in top-tier journals.
- A demonstrated ability to secure external funding for research projects.
