Role Overview:

The Virginia Department of Human Resource Management is seeking a dedicated professional to fill the role of Assistant Resident Engineer specializing in Land Use. This position is pivotal in enhancing the infrastructure that connects communities and fosters growth across the state.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the primary liaison for local authorities regarding land development initiatives.
  • Oversee VDOT land development processes in designated areas, ensuring compliance with established land-use regulations and standards.
  • Manage allocated resources and personnel to achieve program objectives effectively.
  • Represent the department in communications with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Administer the program budget and ensure financial resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Serve as the Staff Engineer for the designated residency.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in applying civil engineering principles to land development and transportation projects.
  • Familiarity with land use processes, including rezoning and community engagement.
  • Experience in managing teams, budgets, and project timelines.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering design software.
  • Ability to cultivate effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Possession of a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Valid driver's license and safety footwear are required.

Additional Considerations:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience in managing transportation maintenance programs.
  • Experience supervising others in a professional setting.
