Job Description

The New School is seeking a part-time Classroom Aide to support our Early Childhood Education program. The ideal candidate will have one year of childcare experience and a passion for working with young children.

Responsibilities:

  • Interactions with Children:
    • Build positive relationships with children
    • Use positive language to guide children in play and routines
    • Show respect toward children and encourage respectful interactions
  • Classroom Duties:
    • Supervise and interact with children; play with children in the learning centers and on the playground
    • Assist in keeping the classroom neat and attractive; follow lead teacher's instructions for cleaning the classroom at the end of the day
    • Manage school supplies and materials with care
    • Perform health and first aid duties, including administering first aid, writing incident reports, and identifying safety hazards
    • Attend to the physical needs of children, including diapering, changing clothes, and comforting as needed
    • Implement instructional and recreational activities appropriate for the developmental needs of children
  • Parent Relations:
    • Greet parents and assist in locating children during pick-up
    • Refer all parental concerns to the lead teacher or preschool administrators
  • School Responsibilities:
    • Attend required meetings or training with preschool administrators
    • Attend professional workshops/classes outside of the school and in-service training (15 hours per year required)
    • Serve as a role model for students; encourage and support students
    • Maintain confidentiality concerning children, parents, and school personnel

Job Qualifications:

  • Enjoy working with young children, work cooperatively with others, and communicate effectively
  • Must be able to understand and follow directions and lift 40 pounds

Education and Experience:

  • Eighteen years old, high school diploma required
  • Childcare experience preferred
