At St. Luke's Hospital, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Ophthalmic Care Specialist to join our team. As an Ophthalmic Care Specialist, you will work closely with our optometrists and ophthalmologists to provide exceptional patient care in the field of eye care.

The primary responsibilities of this role include performing various diagnostic tests and procedures, recording data and measurements, and performing basic office and administrative tasks. You will also work directly with patients to perform tests and assessments, such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception, and help prepare patients for examinations and procedures.

In addition to your clinical skills, you will also be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the clinic, including scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and supporting a positive experience for patients.

The ideal candidate will have a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification, or at least one year of experience in ophthalmology. You will also possess a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Obtains medical history on all patients.
  • Conducts preliminary eye exams, such as screening for vision problems or measuring intraocular pressure.
  • Administers diagnostic tests and procedures, such as OCT, retinal photography or visual field testing.
  • Assist with procedures, such as laser eye surgery or injections.
  • Collect patient health histories and documenting medical records.
  • Educate patients about eye care and vision health.
  • Perform office and administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments or managing inventory.
  • Prepare patients for surgeries.
  • Assist in the calibration and maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in ophthalmic procedures under the direct supervision of the provider.
  • Support and assist with education of patients.
  • Administer medications and topical treatments at the direction of the provider.
  • Responsible for the set-up and maintenance schedule of equipment.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in ophthalmology and participate in continuing education and professional development.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

This role requires sitting for up to seven hours per day, standing for up to four hours per day, and occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. You must also have the ability to hear and see as it relates to normal conversation and general vision.

Education:

A High School diploma or GED equivalent is required for this role.

Training and Experience:

A Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Ophthalmic Technician (COT) certification is preferred, or at least one year of experience in ophthalmology. You must also possess a compassionate and patient-centered approach to care, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
