Role Overview:

An MRI Imaging Specialist functions under the supervision of a radiologist, employing advanced magnetic resonance imaging technology and other sophisticated imaging devices. These professionals are graduates of accredited 2 or 4-year programs and must hold certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as well as licensure from the State of New York. The population served aligns with the scope of services provided in the department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts imaging examinations adhering to specific protocols to produce high-quality images utilizing suitable imaging techniques.
  • Exhibits proficiency in operating modality-specific ancillary equipment, including laser cameras, fluoroscopic devices, contrast injectors, and quality control phantoms.
  • Ensures proper storage, handling, and administration of modality-specific contrast agents, including barium and iodinated agents.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of all relevant patient and procedural information, including patient history and exam details.
  • Prepares patients for procedures by providing clear instructions to achieve optimal results, while minimizing anxiety through effective patient education.
  • Implements safety protocols to mitigate risks to patients and staff, adhering to established standards such as ALARA and MRI safety guidelines.
  • Performs ongoing assessments of patients, monitoring their condition and addressing any physical or psychological needs during procedures.
  • Assists in conducting quality assurance and quality control procedures to ensure equipment operates within regulatory standards.
  • Takes responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and organization of assigned areas, ensuring all rooms are stocked and meet departmental standards.
  • Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitates effective communication with team members, contributing to the smooth operation of the department.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in relevant computer applications, including HIS, RIS, and PACS.
  • Exhibits analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Adheres to all attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Engages in ongoing education related to job responsibilities as required.
  • Maintains all necessary licenses and professional certifications, including continuing education as mandated.
Qualifications:

Education: Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program with specialized training in MRI.

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience required.

Licensure: A.R.R.T. (R), NYS DOH.

Additional: A.R.R.T. (MR) certification preferred; NYS DOH IV Certification preferred.
