The Office of Information Technology at the Dell Medical School is seeking a Lead Technology Architect.

Under the guidance of the Chief Technology Officer, this role serves as a pivotal leader within the technology division and the larger University of Texas Medical Center, steering the comprehensive solution architecture, design, and execution of platforms and capabilities to fulfill the demands of our evolving medical institution.

This position also provides overarching vision and leadership for the data strategy and data platform across the UT System.


Purpose:

The Lead Technology Architect will engage directly with leadership and personnel throughout the IT organization, as well as with business and clinical executives.

Collaboration with IT departments at UT Austin, the UT System, and other healthcare entities within the UT network is a crucial aspect of this role.


Responsibilities:
Possess a profound understanding of cutting-edge technologies and their interrelations.

Exhibit fluency in all facets of data and technology utilized in healthcare, demonstrating the capability to evaluate various factors in forming recommendations, including usability, performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, cybersecurity, and integration.

Development of data capabilities to support clinical, research, and educational requirements will be of utmost significance.
Contribute to the core team responsible for defining the overarching technology roadmap.

Lead transitions and transformations by crafting technical designs that align with business needs, as well as usability, performance, cost, cybersecurity, and integration standards.

Regularly conduct research and assess current technology trends and industry practices to inform strategic direction and collaborate with Business Development on related opportunities.

Effectively communicate technical information to business, clinical, technical, and executive audiences, articulating trade-offs and rationale for recommendations.

Demonstrate a collaborative work style while ensuring the execution and completion of priority tasks.

Possess a business-oriented, people-centric approach, with exceptional influencing and storytelling abilities; exhibit excellent organizational, multitasking, presentation, and time-management skills; and possess strong verbal and written communication skills.

Serve as a role model and mentor for team members, taking accountability for both individual and collective responsibilities.

Proven experience in establishing credibility, securing buy-in, and leading multidisciplinary teams to achieve technical strategies in a dynamic and matrixed environment, partnering with senior business leaders.

Demonstrated success in delivering integrated solutions within complex settings involving multiple delivery teams. Proven capability to lead teams, cultivate effective relationships, and drive change.

Ability to foster strategic partnerships with technology vendors, startups, and industry leaders to enable and accelerate the overall strategy.

Data-driven decision-making and continuous service improvement are essential. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in the relevant domain.

Sound business and financial acumen, contributing to vendor management and contract negotiations in collaboration with operational stakeholders.

Develop, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and standards in partnership with other Technology and Risk Management leaders to ensure alignment and effectiveness across the organization.

Provide leadership in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery planning.


Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, along with 10 years of relevant experience, including prior roles as a Lead Technology Architect or in similar leadership positions.

Demonstrated leadership presence. Previous experience in developing and overseeing solution architecture and/or large-scale design for an enterprise. Experience in formulating and executing data platform strategies. Broad knowledge of technology trends and a robust understanding of the technology industry. Comprehensive understanding of cyber threats and effective mitigation strategies through architecture and design. Experience in vendor management. Proven experience leading IT transformation initiatives in complex environments. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field. Experience in hospital, medical education, research, or related healthcare fields. Experience in the technical design and implementation of new facility technologies. Experience in developing and managing strategic partnerships. Experience in technology strategic planning. Familiarity with other IT domains such as applications management. Prior experience as a Chief Technology Officer is advantageous.
