Position Overview


As a Senior Electrical Engineer specializing in Motor Control and Power Conversion, you will be an integral part of the Oceaneering Aerospace and Defense Technologies (ADTECH) engineering team, which is recognized as a center of excellence within our dynamic global organization.


Your primary focus within the Oceaneering Technologies (OTECH) group will be to support the development and implementation of high-power, high-efficiency motor control systems, drives, active front-end rectifiers, and various power conversion technologies.


In this role, you will engage in diverse activities related to the development and execution of complex power and control systems for unique underwater robotic and electromechanical systems, addressing some of the most challenging requirements from U.S. Navy and other Department of Defense clients.


Most projects are unique, ensuring that your work remains engaging and innovative.


At Oceaneering, we believe in a hands-on approach; our engineers are not confined to their desks but actively participate in building and testing their designs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize your expertise to develop motor controls, drives, active front-end rectifiers, and related power conversion components.
  • Lead system or subsystem projects, contributing significantly to electrical and control system designs, while mentoring junior engineers.
  • Translate high-level requirements into effective designs, working independently and collaboratively.
  • Exhibit strong technical judgment, creativity, and attention to detail throughout your work.
  • Participate in regular design reviews and collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineers.
  • Mentor junior engineers and technicians as needed.
  • Take ownership of your results, working autonomously while knowing when to seek assistance.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow your skills and responsibilities.
Qualifications


Essential Qualifications:


Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or a related field with an electrical concentration. Significant relevant experience may be considered.

At least 8 years of practical experience with a focus on custom high-power motor controls and power conversion systems, including design, analysis, simulation, and testing.

Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain a Department of Defense Security Clearance.


Preferred Qualifications:


Expertise in three-phase brushless motors and control models, including dynamic flux estimation.

Experience with high-frequency space-vector pulse-width modulation (SVPWM) and advanced commutation techniques.

Proficient in motor control software implementation using microcontrollers and DSP.

Familiarity with power electronics design, including high-power IGBTs and MOSFETs.

Strong skills in electrical drawing and drafting, with proficiency in CAD and simulation software.

Excellent communication skills for documenting and presenting engineering concepts.


Additional Desired Qualifications:


Experience in the marine industry, particularly with ROVs and AUVs.

Knowledge of safety systems and standards in marine environments.

Ability to travel occasionally for project needs.


Work Environment


This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring occasional office attendance as determined by business needs.
