About the Job
We are seeking a skilled Clinical Operations Assistant to join our team. The successful candidate will provide clinical and operational support services to facilitate patient care and ensure efficient patient flow.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and operational support services to facilitate patient care and ensure efficient patient flow.
- Assist administrative, nursing, and medical staff by performing a variety of duties, including coordinating all patient care activities and direct patient support.
- Promote efficient and quality patient care and maintain a safe, professional working environment.
- Responsibilities include:
- Greeting patients and escorting them to their examination or treatment room.
- Measuring vital signs and recording findings, updating medical history and patient medication records as necessary.
- Preparing patient, equipment, and room for procedures; assisting with procedures and reporting any problems in patient status to physicians, nurses, or managers.
- Collecting and properly labeling specimens (blood, urine, wound, etc.) and delivering them to the laboratory.
- Documenting all medical instructions, treatments, prescriptions, telephone calls, etc., in electronic medical records with date and signature.
- Serving as a resource to unit staff regarding protocol requirements and sequencing for lab tests and X-ray procedures, delivering and returning diagnostic films (X-rays, scans).
- Entering all incoming and outgoing lab work/results, recording all in-house laboratory results, keeping current lab reports filed in electronic medical records.
- Escorting patients to and from exam and/or treatment areas, restrooms, and assisting patients with urinals, bedpans, or incontinent pads.
- Maintaining equipment, cleaning and disinfecting equipment and exam rooms according to policy and procedure, notifying engineering department of equipment defects or damage.
- Maintaining inventory in exam rooms, laboratory, and other clinical areas, ordering, entering appropriate charges, and storing all supplies for the cancer center, including office, medical, and radiation oncology supplies.
- Responding to patient telephone calls, providing information and instructions as necessary and/or as ordered by physicians, assisting office staff with scheduling and confirming appointments, and performing other clerical duties.
- Contributing to meeting the fluctuating staffing needs of the cancer center by being flexible in own assignments and work schedules when required.
- Responding to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and clinical policies and procedures.
- Meeting performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self-development as outlined in performance review.
- Performing other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the department/unit.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Enrollment in or completion of an accredited medical assistant training program is preferred. Knowledge of general medical terminology is required.
- 1-2 years of related experience as a medical assistant in a clinic setting is preferred; phlebotomy skills are required; computer experience is required.
- Current medical assistant certification (American Association of Medical Assistants or National Healthcare Association preferred) or completion within 1 year is required. BLS is required.
- Good computer skills, highly organized and self-motivated, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, able to take direction from several individuals, evaluate and prioritize duties, work responsibly and independently.
About the Salary
The estimated salary for this position is $50,000 - $70,000 per year, depending on experience.
