Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented student to assist with laboratory preparations and tasks in the Biology Department at Oakton College.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare labs for Medical Laboratory Technology, Biology & Microbiology courses
  • Handle live/preserved specimens, inventory/organization/preparation of supplies & hazardous and corrosive chemicals
  • Prepare biohazardous materials, microbiology media and microorganisms
  • Maintain cadavers, equipment, and models
  • Perform light clerical work and sterilize equipment and biohazard waste
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters
  • Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Preferred but not required: some biology or science background, ability to multitask, understanding of universal precautions and blood borne pathogens
Working Conditions

Student employees will interact with faculty, students, and staff. On occasion, student employees will lift materials or equipment heavier than 40 pounds.
