Position Overview:

As a Maintenance Apprentice, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our machinery and equipment. This position is based in Horsham, PA, and offers a competitive wage of $23.94 per hour.

Work Schedule:

The role involves a 3/4/4/3 schedule with 12-hour shifts, requiring flexibility between day and night shifts on a monthly basis. Expect to work between 36 to 40 hours weekly.

Apprenticeship Duration:

The apprenticeship typically lasts for four years, with annual pay increases contingent upon the completion of On-the-Job Training competencies and maintaining good standing within the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to established safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Support and comply with food safety system guidelines.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot machinery and tooling, ensuring compliance with specifications and work orders.
  • Utilize shop equipment proficiently for the maintenance and troubleshooting of machinery.
  • Interpret technical drawings and specifications to ensure precise machining of parts.
  • Maintain accurate logs of tools and paperwork received.
  • Adjust tools for optimal performance and efficiency in machining processes.
  • Set up and operate various machine tools, including lathes and grinders.
  • Conduct repairs and preventative maintenance on assigned machinery.
  • Maintain an organized and clean workspace.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and the next shift regarding pertinent information.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including clean-up and painting.
  • Engage in welding and heat treating tasks as required.
  • Monitor supply conditions and communicate needs to management.
  • Assist with plant facilities maintenance as needed.
  • Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to the role.
  • Foster positive working relationships within the team and across departments.
  • Work scheduled shifts, including potential overtime and on-call duties as directed.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to follow complex instructions.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a healthful working environment.
  • Complete individual assignments as directed by management.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.

Qualifications:

  • Interest in pursuing an Associates Degree or Certification in Mechatronics or a related field.
  • Experience with hand tools is preferred.
  • A GED or High School Diploma is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA during schooling.
  • Sonoco will cover 100% of educational costs after grants and scholarships, with a commitment to remain with the company for three years post-graduation.
