UMH-Sparrow Ionia Surgery Dept, Full-Time, Day Shift

Under the direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse, this role is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room.

• Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique to ensure a safe and sterile environment.
• Assist the circulating nurse in preparing for surgical procedures and during room turnovers.
• Prepare the sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available.
• During the surgical procedure:
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Function as an assistant when required.
  • Participate in obtaining counts with the circulating nurse.
  • Care for specimens according to procedure.
  • Maintain proper care of instruments and supplies after the procedure.
• Maintain equipment, supplies, and environmental safety.
• Stay up-to-date with current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.
• Participate in in-services, committees, and other educational opportunities to maintain standards.
• Function as a preceptor to new associates and students.

• Certified Surgical Tech
• Current BLS certification
• Previous surgical tech experience preferred
• High School Diploma or GED
• Formal Aseptic Technique Training
