Job Summary

The Senior Pharmacist is a highly skilled professional responsible for providing advanced pharmacy practice in a specialized area of internal medicine and acute care. This role requires expertise in drug therapy, pharmacological consultation, and leadership of pharmacy staff. The incumbent will oversee the competency level of other pharmacy staff, manage drug costs, and facilitate cost containment through data analysis and collaboration with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide drug therapy and pharmacological consultation on complex patients
  • Oversee the competency level of other pharmacy staff in designated specialty areas
  • Manage drug costs and facilitate cost containment through data analysis and collaboration with the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee
  • Participate in medical staff committees and serve as a liaison to the Clinical Pharmacology Consult Service
  • Provide quality and cost-effective pharmaceutical care to patients, employees, and medical staff of UCDMC
Requirements
  • California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or UC Davis Health CPR
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • PGY1 Acute Care Residency Training
  • PGY2, or PGY1 Acute Care with 3 Years of clinical practice experience in specialty practice area
  • Ability to work with, direct and evaluate pharmacy residents and students
  • Ability to work with and direct health care professionals
  • Ability to communicate well and make independent decisions to resolve minor problems as they arise
  • Ability to lead technicians and establish priorities of workflow
  • Complete working knowledge of, and skill to apply, practices, principles and techniques of patient care related to area of expertise
  • Written and oral communication skills to clearly and concisely provide information, explanations and instructions to, and to elicit information from others with varying levels of ability to understand
  • Interpersonal skills to establish and maintain a friendly, welcoming environment for clinic's/department's customers
  • Ability to maintain composure, efficiency and a positive, customer-service oriented manner during periods of peak workload
  • Problem-solving skills to independently recognize and define a problem; identify the resources available to help solve the problem; create and implement viable solutions; and follow through to ensure the problem is resolved to the satisfaction of all parties
  • Decision-making skills to independently exercise delegated authority to take action, and to recognize when it is appropriate to seek assistance from others when limits of delegated authority have been reached
  • Ability to exercise discretion to ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained, and a professional, respectful clinic/department environment exists at all times
