Position Overview

The Ultrasound Technologist I is an essential member of the healthcare team, responsible for executing a variety of diagnostic imaging procedures aimed at identifying specific medical conditions.

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Ultrasound Supervisor or Radiology Manager
Supervision Type: Direct

Key Responsibilities

The following are the primary duties associated with this role:

  1. Competently perform all procedures within the Ultrasound Section of the Radiology Department.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of all relevant imaging equipment.
  3. Evaluate patient conditions, review medical orders, and confirm the purpose of examinations, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete.
  4. Prepare patients for procedures, addressing any inquiries and effectively communicating with supervising radiologists regarding specific instructions or exam protocols.
  5. Accurately record exam times in the Radiology Information System (RIS) to facilitate timely access for radiologists.
  6. Maintain a safe environment adhering to infection control guidelines and patient safety standards.
  7. Monitor exam timeliness and quality of care, striving for continuous improvement in service delivery.
  8. Engage in quality assurance of exams before submission for interpretation.
  9. Contribute to the education of student sonographers.
  10. Participate in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
Qualifications

To fulfill the essential functions of this position, the following qualifications are required:

Education and Training

Graduation from an AMA accredited Sonography program. Preferred credentials include ARRT (Sonography) or ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS). New graduates may apply if registered or registry eligible, with a requirement to obtain registration within 12 months of hire. Current AHA CPR certification is also necessary.

Experience

A minimum of one year of relevant experience is required.

Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated technical expertise in diagnostic and vascular sonography, alongside strong interpersonal communication skills. The ability to provide compassionate patient care and understand developmental needs across various age groups is essential.

Physical Requirements

Ability to communicate effectively, possess dexterity and visual acuity, and maintain mobility for various tasks. The role may require standing for extended periods and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
