Cafeteria Assistant I Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Cafeteria Assistant I to join our team at Lodi Unified School District. As a Cafeteria Assistant I, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our food service facilities, providing excellent customer service to students and staff, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare food service facilities for the serving of food, including washing and preparing eating and serving areas.
  • Count and set out an appropriate number of trays, set out food and beverages according to established procedures, and maintain snack and salad bar and replace condiments as needed.
  • Portion and serve food to students and staff according to established procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation of food, including preparing sandwiches, grating cheese, mixing and chopping fruits and vegetables, and assisting in baking cookies, breads, and cakes.
  • Operate dishwasher and wash and sanitize trays, plates, utensils, and other serving equipment.
  • Assist in setting up and stocking food preparation and service lines.
  • Maintain food storage, appliances, work, and serving areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition.
  • Perform cashiering duties as assigned, including collecting money and making change, and counting the number of students served, free, reduced, pre-paid, and paid lunches.
  • Transport food from one location to another as assigned, lifting heavy containers of food and supplies.

Requirements:

  • Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent and some experience in food service operations.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • County Health Services Approved Food Handler Certificate (may be required after February 1, 2004).

Working Conditions:

  • Food service environment.
  • Exposure to hot foods, equipment, and metal objects.
  • Driving a vehicle to conduct work as required.

Physical Demands:

  • Standing or walking for extended periods of time.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate kitchen equipment.
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling food trays, carts, materials, and supplies.
  • Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
  • Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching.
