Under the guidance of the Executive Director or Assistant Executive Director, the Clinical Nutrition Specialist delivers expert clinical services focused on nutritional documentation and assessment, ensuring compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities- Conducts comprehensive nutritional assessments, including initial evaluations, changes in condition, and annual reviews, adhering to company policies and regulatory standards.
- Engages in discharge planning and collaborates on the development and execution of patient Care Plans.
- Interviews patients and their families to gather detailed dietary histories.
- Handles administrative tasks, including the completion of necessary documentation and reports for the Executive Director.
- Collaborates with administration, medical, and nursing staff to strategize food service programs and initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains objectives and standards for nutritional services.
- Assists in the implementation and coordination of departmental policies and procedures.
- Reviews and updates departmental manuals and job descriptions annually, recommending necessary changes.
- Participates in budget development and monitoring for the department.
- Facilitates in-service education and training programs for new department personnel.
- Involves residents and families in setting nutritional goals and objectives.
- Reviews and adjusts menus according to the Diet Manual and approves therapeutic diets as needed.
- Ensures compliance with food service regulations through regular inspections.
- Documents monthly on high-risk residents and leads weekly weight committee meetings.
Supports the Mission, Values, and Vision of the organization, ensuring resident rights are upheld in a safe and dignified environment.
Adheres to confidentiality regarding all data, including resident and operational information.
Demonstrates teamwork by cooperating with colleagues and completing tasks with minimal supervision.
Reports any incidents of resident abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
Maintains professional development through educational opportunities.
QualificationsMust possess a degree in nutrition or dietetics from an accredited institution and have completed at least 900 hours of supervised practice. A valid state license or certification as a dietitian is required.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform tasks that involve bending, standing, and walking for extended periods.
SkillsProficient in reading, writing, and mathematics, with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer skills and knowledge of safety techniques are essential.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
