Position Overview
The Lead Insurance Specialist is tasked with overseeing the implementation and management of Burns & McDonnell's comprehensive insurance strategy. This role involves collaboration with corporate executives, Board members, and project leaders to provide informed recommendations regarding insurance issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the procurement, renewal, and compliance of the organization's insurance portfolio.
- Foster and maintain relationships with insurance brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators.
- Evaluate external contracts and provide guidance on insurance stipulations and potential liabilities.
- Collect and assess necessary underwriting documentation.
- Manage the issuance of Certificates of Insurance for various projects.
- Act as a liaison among the firm, insurance brokers, adjusters, and legal representatives involved in claims.
- Consult with internal and external stakeholders to stay informed about changes in exposure or operational risks in the insurance landscape.
- Present findings and recommendations to the Leadership Board.
- Recruit, mentor, and retain high-caliber employee-owners.
- Lead the insurance team, coordinating tasks and initiatives effectively.
- Conduct performance evaluations for direct reports.
- Interpret and communicate the organization's policies, objectives, and goals to team members.
- Ensure adherence to overall quality assurance and quality control processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Comply with all organizational policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with 8 years of relevant experience in the insurance sector, particularly in commercial insurance for engineering and construction projects. Experience in corporate or agency settings is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial property/casualty coverages and bonds.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to positively influence, lead, and manage organizational change.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills; adept at presenting complex information clearly to all levels of staff, management, and clients.
- Proficient project management skills with a strategic outlook.
- Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
