Overview:

The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking part-time Safety and Security Specialists to ensure the protection and safety of our facilities and personnel. This role involves working a maximum of 29 hours per week during daytime hours, with no weekend shifts required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular patrols and inspections to maintain a secure environment.
  • Utilize sound judgment and discretion in various situations.
  • Engage with staff and visitors to promote a safe atmosphere.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience beyond high school.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as MS Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, including criminal and driving history.
  • Must obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications.
  • Basic understanding of safety regulations and emergency procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Criminal Justice or a related field.
  • Two years of law enforcement experience.
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
