Braille Music Transcriber Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Braille Music Transcriber to join our team at Library Systems & Services LLC. As a Braille Music Transcriber, you will be responsible for transcribing music and accompanying text into Braille format, following recognized standards including the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) Music Braille Code.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transcribe music and text into Braille format
  • Follow recognized standards for Braille music notation
  • Provide virtual and face-to-face support to users
  • Triage information requests to appropriate library units
  • Perform opening and closing procedures for the library services desk
  • Assist patrons with directional requests and check library materials in and out
  • Process interlibrary loan requests and assist patrons with library technologies
  • Perform daily collections maintenance and other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Be certified in braille transcription by the Library of Congress
  • Hold a braille music certification, full level for most tasks, or a minimum of associate level for selected tasks
  • Experience transcribing or proofreading braille
  • Knowledge of literary braille (EBAE, UEB) and music braille
  • Some knowledge of French, German, Italian, Spanish, etc., as well as styles of classical and popular European and American music from various eras
