Service Mechanic Job Description

Wastequip's Fleet Services division is seeking a skilled Service Mechanic to support our Lithia Springs, GA service operation. As a Service Mechanic, you will be responsible for performing service and warranty repair work on our fleet of vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to customers' sites to perform service and warranty repair work
  • Work may also be performed onsite at our facility
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications
  • Conduct inspections, repair engine failures, and repair mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions
  • Verify vehicle service ability by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
  • Comply with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
  • Maintain vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting
  • Maintain vehicle records by recording service and repairs
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and performing preventive maintenance
  • Contain costs by using warranty and evaluating service and parts options
  • Participate in educational opportunities and read technical publications to increase job knowledge

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years' experience as a Truck or Heavy equipment mechanic
  • Ability to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions
  • Able to troubleshoot electrical and hydraulic components
  • Welding experience required
  • Proficiency in welding and fabricating
  • General mechanical abilities with Diesel Trucks or Heavy Construction Equipment
  • Good customer service skills
  • Refuse (Waste Truck) experience is preferred
  • Ability to ride in a vehicle for long periods of time
  • Team-oriented
