As a Nursing Care Partner/Patient Care Technician at Sentara, you will have the chance to acquire a variety of essential skills, ranging from monitoring vital signs to performing blood draws and providing daily patient care. Your key responsibilities will include assisting with the admission and discharge processes, aiding in patient hygiene and mobility, conducting blood draws, managing foley catheter care, and addressing patient needs while working closely under the guidance of a registered nurse. Job Responsibilities

Nursing Care Partners are unlicensed personnel who work under the direct supervision of a professional nurse to implement delegated aspects of nursing care. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing patient care and supporting the admissions and discharge processes.
  • Adhering to patient safety protocols under the direction of the professional nurse.
  • Monitoring patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and reporting any changes to nursing staff.

For those designated as Safety Partners, training in de-escalation and physical intervention must be completed within 30 days of hire, or within 15 days for those in Behavioral Health.

Acceptable educational qualifications include: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, successful completion of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School, or current enrollment in a clinical program having completed at least one semester of a (RN, LPN, RT, or PT) program, or relevant work experience as a PCT or Nursing Assistant within the last three years.

Preferred qualifications include one year of healthcare experience and AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.

High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification - American Heart Association (AHA)
Certified Patient Care Technician/Assistant (CPCT/A) Certification - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
