Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Lumber Inspector to join our team at Hartzell Industries. As a Lumber Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting incoming and outgoing lumber according to NHLA rules at the assigned grading deck.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Inspect lumber according to specie, grade, and dimension, using NHLA lumber grading rules.
  2. Operate and control the Lumber Handling Machine from the grading deck platform.
  3. Grade lumber at the accuracy and speed determined by Hartzell standards.
  4. Correct any skews and situations that stop the lumber line from running.
  5. Switch off with another lumber inspector and work in another assigned position when not grading lumber.
  6. Report tallies to Team Leader or Supervisor and determine total board footage by adding and multiplying tally columns.
Requirements
  • Previous experience in grading walnut lumber along with other hardwood species is desired.
  • NHLA schooling is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Long periods of sitting on grading deck, occasionally turning boards weighing between 5 lbs. to over 60 lbs.
