Position Overview:

The Fire Protection Equipment Specialist is tasked with the assessment, maintenance, and installation of fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, and various fire suppression systems, including kitchen hoods and paint booths. Additionally, this role involves the inspection and servicing of fire extinguishers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct semi-annual and annual evaluations of fire suppression systems, fire sprinkler systems, and fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Document inspection results and identify any deficiencies in detailed reports.
  • Perform annual maintenance and inspections of fire extinguishers.
  • Assess the appropriate type, quantity, and positioning of fire extinguishers based on the specific hazards and occupancy classifications.
  • Replace fire extinguishers that require servicing and remove any obsolete or damaged units.
  • Install fire extinguisher cabinets, brackets, and wall mounts.
  • Clearly indicate the type, size, and location of fire extinguishers in inspection documentation.
  • Communicate any compliance issues to clients effectively.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and team members to ensure the efficient installation, repair, and maintenance of fire protection systems.
  • Provide technical support and advice to clients regarding the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems.
  • Foster and develop partnerships that will enhance business growth within the industry.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and practices to ensure personal and public safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED is required. Certifications or training in fire extinguishers, fire suppression, fire sprinkler, and fire alarm systems are highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Understanding of basic electrical principles and the ability to interpret electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Prior experience as a Fire Technician is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret NFPA standards (10, 13, 17, 17a, 25, 72, 96) and technical manuals (e.g., Ansul, Amerex, CaptiveAire).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with clients and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass drug and background checks.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear, with full use of hands. Occasionally required to sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work from a ladder and, in some cases, a man-lift.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel as needed.
