Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled ER Tech to join our team at Northwestern Memorial Healthcare. As an ER Tech, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care in our Emergency Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process patient specimens, including urine, stool, and sputum.
  • Perform various laboratory tests, including phlebotomy, accucheck glucose test, and blood glucose test.
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
  • Perform 12-lead EKGs and recognize basic arrhythmias.
  • Assist with patient ambulation and positioning, as well as comfort activities and feeding patients as needed.
  • Assist RNs and physicians with exams and minor procedures.
  • Respond to emergencies and seek assistance from appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Administer simple oxygen masks or nasal cannulas.
  • Prime IV bags and tubing, and disconnect IVs or Heplocks.
  • Transport patients to and from radiology for diagnostic testing.
  • Transport blood and blood components to the laboratory.
  • Assist with patient admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist with post-mortem care.
  • Communicate with various departments, healthcare facilities, and physician offices for diagnostic testing and results.
  • Enter orders into the computer system.
  • Maintain ER log books and statistics.
  • Maintain ER charts and update information as needed.
  • Update on-call physician schedules for the Emergency Department.
  • Ensure appropriate supplies are maintained in the storeroom and place routine and special orders as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CNA or EMT-B certification.
  • CPR certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push/pull forces up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a healthcare setting.
