Overview:

Responsible for delivering educational courses and practical training in the Horticulture Certificate program.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with fellow educators to develop or update course materials and submit them for administrative review.
  2. Instruct classes as assigned by the Associate Dean, adhering to approved course outlines.
  3. Work with colleagues to recommend textbooks and submit suggestions to the Associate Dean.
  4. Request instructional materials and supplies through purchase orders for approval.
  5. Maintain accurate attendance and grading records as required.
  6. Participate in faculty meetings as called by administrative leadership.
  7. Commit to a work schedule of 37.5 hours per week, including a 30-minute lunch break.
  8. Arrive at the workplace and classroom punctually before scheduled hours.
  9. Engage in committees aimed at enhancing the educational environment.
  10. Assist with student registration as necessary.
  11. Address the diverse needs of students, providing support and guidance, and coordinating with other college services when needed.
  12. Uphold and enforce college regulations and policies, reporting any significant issues to the administration.
  13. Exhibit professionalism in all interactions.
  14. Notify administration in advance of any absences.
  15. Manage inventory of hazardous materials responsibly.
  16. Ensure proper control of tools and keys assigned.
  17. Complete required forms and reports accurately.
  18. Monitor student attendance and engagement consistently.
  19. Support institutional staff during emergencies.
  20. Adhere to Illinois Department of Corrections regulations and procedures.
  21. Maintain equipment in assigned areas.

Qualifications:

Education: Associate Degree preferred.
Experience: Teaching experience is desired; horticulture experience is essential.
Knowledge: Familiarity with computerized greenhouse operations.
Skills: Proficient in landscaping, calculating material requirements, designing landscapes, and propagating plants. Strong communication skills are necessary.
Personal Attributes: Excellent interpersonal skills are required.
