Job Summary:
The State of Missouri is seeking a highly skilled Security Officer to provide protection and security services for public property and equipment in a state office building or other public facility. As a Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining order and proper behavior of individuals and groups, preventing and investigating incidents of theft, vandalism, and other security breaches.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular rounds throughout the building and/or grounds to observe the demeanor of the public, employees, residents, or patients, and take necessary action to ensure proper conduct is observed.
- Report questionable conduct of employees, residents, patients, or the public to an immediate supervisor or other administrator, and investigate acts of vandalism or theft as needed.
- Prepare and submit reports of infractions of laws, regulations, and/or rules that occur on the grounds or within the building.
- Respond to routine questions and provide directions to the public.
- Assist in implementing training programs involving security procedures, and assist in organizing and conducting searches when patients/residents walk away or escape.
- Take necessary action in removing unruly individuals or detaining them until they can be turned over to the proper authorities.
- Dispatch institutional vehicles, receive reports of difficulties with the vehicles, and arrange for repairs.
- Conduct fire prevention inspections and respond to all fire alarms.
Requirements:
- One or more years of experience as a Security Guard with the Missouri Uniform Classification and Pay System.
- Thirty (30) or more earned credit hours from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 6 earned credit hours in Criminal Justice.
- One or more years of experience in military or civilian security or law enforcement work, and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency.

This is an entry-level position that requires regular and predictable attendance, with a focus on maintaining a safe and secure environment for the public and employees. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
