Position Summary

The Clinical Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive clinical services to individuals at Moody Neuro. This includes the evaluation and intervention of communication disorders that are neurologically based, encompassing areas such as speech, language, cognitive function, voice, fluency, and swallowing. The SLP will also facilitate referrals to other specialists, including audiologists, as necessary. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams is essential to address the communication and cognitive needs of patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients, reviewing their files and coordinating evaluations as needed.
  • Evaluate various aspects of communication, including speech, language, pragmatics, voice, fluency, and cognitive abilities, along with swallowing assessments.
  • Document assessment findings and provide a comprehensive summary for the patient's records.
  • Deliver feedback to patients, families, and referral sources regarding evaluation outcomes and suggested interventions.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment results.
  • Recommend additional services and assist in arranging referrals to other providers.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions for cognitive-communicative, speech, and swallowing disorders in both individual and group settings.
  • Maintain detailed records of therapy sessions and track patient progress monthly.
  • Communicate patient advancements during team meetings and through written reports.
  • Complete discharge documentation and facilitate necessary referrals according to organizational policies.
  • Supervise and train students and clinical fellows in speech therapy as assigned.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to team discussions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Skills and Knowledge
  • In-depth understanding of neuropathology and neurogenic communication disorders.
  • Ability to design and execute effective treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Strong teamwork skills and adaptability.
  • Familiarity with speech-language pathology assessment tools.
  • Proficient in independent work while maintaining professionalism.
  • Willingness to accept guidance from colleagues in their areas of expertise.
  • Interest in learning advanced assessment techniques.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Commitment to ethical standards set by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying diagnostic results and treatment recommendations.
  • Ability to engage positively with individuals with disabilities.
  • Creativity in developing therapeutic activities that address patient deficits.
  • Maintain CPR certification and complete necessary training as required.

Educational Background
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, with a Certificate of Clinical Competence and a valid Texas License in Speech-Language Pathology.

Experience
Preferred: At least one year of experience working with adults who have sustained brain injuries.
