Job Summary: We're seeking a skilled CNC Setup Operator to join our team at Vector's Mentor, OH facility. As a CNC Setup Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and programming 2-axis and 3-axis CNC lathes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Read blueprints or job orders for product specifications, such as dimensions and tolerances, tooling instructions, such as fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut, and determine sequence of operations.
  • Select, position, and secure tool in toolholder (chuck, collet, or toolpost).
  • Verify that gaging methods are adequate to produce the necessary quality requirements.
  • Document all essential information on any required forms, such as job travelers, pan tags, red nonconformance tags, and layout sheets.
  • Position and secure workpiece in holding device, machine table, chuck, centers, or fixtures, using clamps and wrenches.
  • Move controls to position tool and workpiece in relation to each other and to set specified feeds, speeds, and depth of cut.
  • Turn valve handle to direct flow of coolant or cutting oil against tool and workpiece.
  • Observe operation of machine and verify conformance of machined workpiece to specifications, using measuring instruments, such as fixed gauges, calipers, and micrometers.
  • Observe machining operation to detect malfunction or tool wear.
  • Operate bench grinder to sharpen tools.
  • Communicate with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate activities.
  • Inspect and measure parts to maintain statistical process control charts.
  • Perform finish operations, when required (i.e., deburring).
  • Read and comprehend blueprints and job traveler instructions and follow established safety procedures.
  • Keep records of production quantities.
  • Report defective parts and complete appropriate documentation when defects are identified.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Required Training & Experience:
  • 5+ years' machining experience.
  • Must have own tools.
  • Familiarity with machine maintenance and proven knowledge in commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions.
  • Practical experience reading and comprehending blueprints and work instructions, and following established safety procedures.
  • GD&T.
  • CAM experience.
