POSITION SUMMARY

Under the close guidance of nursing leadership, this role is designed to assist healthcare providers by performing direct patient care tasks. Responsibilities include managing patient callbacks and medication refill requests, conducting diagnostic tests, maintaining inventory of supplies, and ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of medical equipment. All duties must be performed in compliance with regulations and confidentiality standards, while upholding the mission and values of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and room patients, documenting vital signs and ensuring readiness for provider examinations.
  • Administer medications as directed by physicians, adhering to the established scope of practice following appropriate training.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests such as EKGs, audiograms, tympanograms, spirometry, and visual screenings, documenting results in the electronic medical record system.
  • Manage medication refill requests and assist with daily review of provider refill baskets using established protocols.
  • Monitor and respond to triage call baskets, ensuring timely patient callbacks.
  • Communicate normal lab results to patients, ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Maintain fully stocked patient rooms and ensure supplies are within expiration dates.
  • Clean and sanitize patient areas as required, including proper handling of soiled linens.
  • Ensure daily stocking of fresh linens in laundry carts.
  • Follow instructions from nursing supervisors and adhere to clinic protocols.
  • Provide educational materials to patients as directed.
  • Comply with all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, and the Code of Conduct.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Adhere to core competencies as outlined by the organization.
  • Work holiday shifts as required by company policy.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Answer incoming calls to nursing triage, assessing the urgency of each call.
  • Utilize strong listening skills to determine the appropriate response to patient inquiries.
  • Forward calls requiring clinical intervention to the appropriate healthcare staff.
  • Handle various patient requests, including medication refills, referrals, and record requests.
  • Utilize smart phrases for message-taking and ensure accurate routing to providers.
  • Post patient test results through the patient portal.
  • Assist providers during procedures by preparing equipment and ensuring patient readiness.
  • Maintain medical equipment, ensuring proper sterilization and functionality.
  • Perform other assigned duties within the scope of unlicensed personnel as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet one of the following criteria: experience as a Medical Assistant, CNA, EMT, PCT, or completion of a medical assistant program.

Preferred:

  • At least six months of experience as a Medical Assistant.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to administer medications and injections within the designated timeframe post-hire.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with Windows operating systems.
  • Capacity to adapt communication to meet the needs of others.
  • Professional demeanor in all job-related interactions.
  • Ability to comprehend and relay factual information accurately.
  • Capability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply common sense in job performance.

Certification/License

Medical Assistant certification is preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Work Schedule: Flexible availability required during standard business hours.
