Position Overview

The Nutritional Cook is responsible for preparing meals in sufficient quantities for patient dining, including specialized dishes for therapeutic diets as required. The cook will adhere to the established menu and may assist with meal service and kitchen sanitation as needed. Additional tasks may be assigned by the food service manager.

Compensation:

Compensation for the Prep and Cook position ranges from $10.00 to $14.00, depending on experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure the quality of food and provide assistance to colleagues in the department as necessary.
  2. Maintain accurate food counts.
  3. Uphold cleanliness in the work environment, adhering to food handling guidelines.
  4. Engage appropriately with residents, their families, and team members.
  5. Set and clean tables as required.
  6. Wash dishes and kitchen utensils as needed.
  7. Complete additional assigned tasks when not engaged in cooking or food preparation.

Special Requirements:

  • A genuine interest in patient care and food service.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments.
  • Capability to follow recipes and menus, particularly for therapeutic diets.
  • Ability to adhere to meal schedules.
  • Capacity to work efficiently under pressure during peak times.
  • Willingness to prepare food for special events as requested.
  • Demonstrate initiative and sound judgment within the scope of the role.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and follow both written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic math skills necessary for recipe adherence.
  • Familiarity with large-scale food preparation and cooking is advantageous.
  • Ability to estimate food quantities based on written recipes.
  • Knowledge of health regulations as outlined by public health authorities.

Work Environment:

The work environment is a clean, well-lit, and ventilated kitchen, with a controlled climate except when accessing walk-in refrigeration and freezer units.

Dress Code:

Compliance with the facility's dress code policy is required, including wearing the department shirt, white pants and shoes, and appropriate hair and beard nets as applicable.
